GENERAL INFORMATION (1) The torque values on page DF02-1112 are for fasteners that have a light application of oil on the threads. • If the fasteners are dry: Increase the torque values by 10%. • If the fasteners have a heavy application of oil on the threads: Decrease the torque values by 10%. (2) If you do not know the size of the fastener that is being installed, measure the fastener. Use the following procedure. 2. AMERICAN STANDARD FASTENERS . a. Measure the diameter of the threads in inches, dimension X. b. Count the amount of threads in 1-inch. Example • American Standard size fastener is 0.50-13. • 0.50 is the diameter of the fastener in inches or dimension X. • 13 is the amount of threads in 1-inch. 3. METRIC FASTENERS . a. Measure the diameter of the threads in millimeters (mm), dimension X. b. Measure the distance of 10 threads, point to point in millimeters (mm), dimension Y. Make a note of dimension Y. c. Divide dimension Y by 10. The result will be the distance between two threads or pitch. Example • Metric size fastener is M8 x 1.25. M8 is the diameter of the fastener in millimeters (mm) or dimension X. • 1.25 is the distance between two threads or pitch. (1) Compare the size of fastener measured in 1. (2) above to the list of fasteners on page DF02-1112 to find the correct torque value.
