The points that  have special significance from the safety point-of-view are indicated with a A mark in this manual. The control valve consists of a speed selector valve, a direction valve and a shut-off valve. The speed selector and direction valves are operated manually by way of the link mechanism to switch the oil flow from the regulator valve to selected clutch pistons. All clutch circuits other than that of the clutch then engaged are connected with the drain-port, the clutch pistons in these circuits being pushed back by the springs to release the clutch plates. The shut-off valve is activated by air when the clutch pedal is depressed or the parking brake activated, to shut off the circuit from the regulator to the direction clutch, while simultaneously switching the clutch circuit connected to the drain port, so as to disengage the clutch. When the air is released, the spool in the shut-off valve is pushed back by the return spring to re-engage the clutch circuit.
